PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS AND ENGRAVINGS
We preserve many masterpieces of Old Netherlandish painting, dating from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, some of which are attributed to great masters such as Rogier van der Weyden, Wenceslas Cobergher, Gaspard de Crayer, Antoon Van Dyck and Josse de Momper.
The most emblematic work in our collection, on display in the museum, is a monumental polyptych depicting scenes from the life and death of the Virgin, attributed to the painter Bernard Van Orley.
Another exceptional work in our possession, at the crossroads of painting and sculpture, is a sculpted, gilded and painted altarpiece from Brussels, dating from around 1500, which can also be seen in the museum.
Nineteenth-century Belgian landscapes and genre painting are also well represented in our collections, featuring great names such as Eugène Verboeckhen, Félicien Rops and Frans Smeers.
Alongside the painted works, the collection is packed with drawings and engravings from all periods, some of them signed by famous artists such as the expressionists Anto Carte and James Ensor.
